Curatorial Note
Ahmedabad, or Amdavad as it is called colloquially, is a city renowned for its rich design history and strong institutional patronage. Does the impact of this history and patronage still survive in the age of aggressive capitalism, hubris and othering?
The exhibition is an attempt to answer this question. It brings together a diverse array of innovative, alternative, and some under-the-radar design practises based in Ahmedabad. Despite their varied mediums and methodologies, these practices are united by a common thread of immense thoughtfulness and sensitivity.
The Amdavadi knack for innovation and flair for cultural vibrancy provides a fertile ground for designers to flourish, offering both inspiration and support. This show celebrates the nuanced approaches of a selection of artists and designers whose works not only reflect their individual creativity but also contribute to the social and cultural fabric of the city.
By bringing these voices together, I aim to illuminate the profound impact of meaningful, relevant and sensitive design on our shared environment and society.
This exhibition is a testament to the power of considered design in fostering introspection, connection, understanding, and positive change.
