Rogan Art
Rizwan Khatri’s Rogan paintings brim with life, drawing from everyday inspirations-ceremonies, humour, nature, and his own courtyard. His works range from vibrant, intricate pieces to intimate, postcard-like scenes that capture the world around him. Until the 1970s, Rogan artisans decorated large 3 meter fabric lengths boldly and spontaneously. By the early 2000s, the craft shifted to smaller, intricate 12-inch canvases dominated by ‘Tree of Life’ motifs. Using the traditional Rogan technique, Rizwan applies oil-based paint made from boiled castor oil and natural pigments onto fabric, infusing the age-old craft with fresh energy, embracing the small format while weaving spontaneous stories into his designs.
