Ari ‘Mochi’ Embroidery
Kasam and Zuma’s ari ‘mochi’ embroidery is perhaps the finest one could ever witness. Their work embodies a level of technical precision and aesthetic sophistication akin to creation of a precious piece of jewellery. Ari mochi embroidery is part of a long- standing oral tradition, one that has yet to be fully explored, or contemporised. Kasam and Zuma’s work stands out as a notable exception in the show, proudly asserting itself as ‘uncontemporary’, capturing cultural treasures in exquisite miniature form. They have always preferred their work to remain anonymous, allowing the workmanship to take center stage and focussing on the “purity of skill and expression,” without distraction.
