This 19th-century Veerabhadra plaque from Karnataka beautifully represents this fierce form of Lord Shiva. Veerabhadra wears a peaked crown adorned with a Naga, symbolizing protection and divine power. He has four arms, holding a bow and arrow, a sword, and a shield, highlighting his warrior prowess. Flanking him are Daksha and Sati, representing the narrative of Sati's sacrifice and Veerabhadra's transformation from Lord Shiva. Daksha symbolizes ego and the consequences of disrespecting the divine, while Sati embodies devotion and sacrifice. At the top of the plaque, the sun and moon symbolize balance and duality, with the sun representing knowledge and vitality and the moon signifying calmness and intuition. Together, these elements contribute to the plaque's rich symbolism and significance in Hindu mythology.
