Maheshwari From its inception, Maheshwari weaving has carried a shared cultural and geographical history. Influenced by the regions it touched and the political dynamics of its time, it evolved through royal patronage, finding its way into the courts of kings and kingdoms across the Indian subcontinent. This wide-reaching journey not only diversified its techniques but also its usage, making it a textile of both utility and prestige. In this collection, we honour its Marathi roots while infusing a sense of modern functionality. A specially designed Shalu—traditionally a bridal odhani—has been reimagined to complement the grandeur of heavy silk sarees typically worn at weddings and other ceremonial occasions.
Crafted in pure silk keeping in mind the heritage traditional colors, this Shalu features a rich zari border and intricate bootas woven throughout the body. It serves as a statement accessory, elevating the entire ensemble with elegance and intention. While rooted in festive tradition, this piece introduces a fresh
design vocabulary: a newly developed extra-warp border inspired by floral motifs, abstracted into a tessellated geometric pattern using dobby weaving techniques. This blend of old and new highlights how Maheshwari textiles continue to evolve, honouring their heritage while embracing innovation. It is this seamless integration of tradition and experimentation that keeps Maheshwari weaving
alive, relevant, and ever-inspiring.
