Echoes of Bombay is a year-long journey of observation, research, patience, and countless tiny embroidery stitches, an intimate exploration of the city’s past, layered memories, and architectural legacy. Over the course of a year, these artworks were carefully conceived, studied, and translated into thread through a slow, deliberate process that honours both craft and city.
Each artwork in this collection was chosen to depict Old Bombay – its nostalgia, rawness, faith, labour, and architectural grandeur. What began as an idea has, over a year, come full circle into a body of hand-embroidered stories, stitched withpatience, intention, and love.Bombay, reimagined in thread.
Kailash Poojary, Founder and CEO of V. V. Exports Universal Pvt. Ltd., brings over two decades of experience and a deep passion for fashion, textiles, and hand embroidery. Trained at the J.D. Institute of Fashion Technology, his journey spans couture design, merchandising, and close collaborations with leading designers. Kailash has shaped a sharp, intuitive understanding of embroidery as both a craft and a design language.
Founded in 2004, V. V. Exports has evolved into a globally respected embroidery atelier, known for its meticulous craftsmanship and innovation. Under Kailash’s leadership, the team has created award-winning work, including the Best International Costume of the Year at Miss Asia Pacific 2014, and has contributed embroidered creations showcased on international platforms such as the MET Gala, Oscars, and Golden Globe Awards.
Deeply hands-on, Kailash works closely with his skilled team through every stage, from concept and swatch development to final execution – ensuring precision, originality, and quality. Together, they share a commitment to storytelling through stitch, celebrating hand embroidery as a timeless yet evolving art form.
