FABRIC - Neem Reshmi Handloom

BLOUSE - Muthada-palla- in tested gold zari

The Jharokha is inspired by the  ornate bay-window.  intricately carved, that projects from the wall of the Ahilya fort. These windows were covered with jalidar stonework to let air and light pass through. The light & shadow work because of the jaali serves at the inspiration for this border. The intervening and overlapping geometric border tessellates and grows in a linear fashion, peaking interest. These resemble the rhythmic movement of the dobby design imitating the sounds waves and hence the name sangeet.

This particular neem reshami, is influenced by the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, and MV Dhurandar prominent painters of the 1900s, known for their detailed depictions of everyday life, particularly women in traditional attire in everyday setups, preserving India's cultural heritage. A common theme of Marathi women wearing simple traditional colored sarees with intercrate borders, paired with a visually heavy worked blouse. Echoing this visual tradition, here a checkered, extra weft and warp muthada in gold zari is woven. The maheshwari identity of Dobby designs(extra warp), and palledaar(extra weft), here has been explored in the blouse, retaining the crafts essence while developing a new look, also where Rehwa shines through. Drawing inspiration from the Marathi roots, this saree set with blouse complements the boldness and simplicity of each other splendidly
