The namesake of this saree, Helvier, the owner of the original saree made in Rehwa in 1981, inspires the current one. Here at Rehwa Society, tradition is appreciated and reserved by the patrons of and revived with reverence and love by the weavers whose ancestors wove the original pieces. The light weight stripe textured neem reshami with fine cotton and 1ply silk going parallely in the weft brings out the delicacy of this textile. The primary and tertiary color combination brings out the understated beauty of the saree. This simpler calmer toned saree takes it inspiration from the original 1700s Maheswari worn by the widowed Ahilya Bai who gravitated towards these calmer, muted hues, which reflected her simplicity and strength. The multiple parallel lined border complements the striped- butedaar palla in Rui phool and gives it the finished ensemble. This piece pays homage to her legacy through its restrained elegance and timeless palette.
