Meena- a traditional Maheswari border composed of big diamond tessellations. filled in with a 4 petal geometric flower. An element of intrigue with a colored “dot” at vertice points in silk is added to enhance the beauty. According to folklore, the meena dot said to have been drawn from the Meenakari craft, an ancient art form of enameling with vibrant colors on metal, with mineral substances. This also re enforces the shared histories of crafts across these region, the fact that Devi Ahilyabai hosted craftspersons from Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra to establish the Maheshwari textile craft. These artisans brought in thier expertise and exposure to other crafts and blended that into what Maheswaris are today.
To harmonize well with this archival border, the iconic Churi Utaar denting has been done in the sarees body. The interaction of ascending and descending 2 colored stripes meeting in the middle serves as a visual treat, while maintaining the intrigue in a draped saree. This Neem reshami is more cotton with the usage of 1ply silk to reinforce the translucency and making the textile more fluid. Monotone shaded warp with a tertiary color weft gives this saree a dhoop-chav effect with movement.
