Maheshwar, the capital of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar during her reign, was transformed by her into a vibrant center of culture and devotion. A devout follower of Lord Shiva, she dedicated herself to the construction and restoration of numerous Shiva temples throughout the Malwa region. This deep connection to Shiva is reflected in many aspects of Maheshwar's heritage. One such symbolic element is the Rudraksha seed, long associated with Lord Shiva and believed to carry his divine energy. Considered sacred, Rudraksha seeds are used for spiritual practices and protection. Drawing inspiration from this, the Rudraksha border design is an artistic abstraction of the seed, with an uneven star in negative space at its center, crafted to highlight the warp-faced weave technique. This is Rehwa Society’s way of paying homage to Lord Shiva’s enduring presence in Maheshwar’s spiritual landscape. The structured design of the body of the saree complementing the geometric rhythm of the border. The Neem Reshmi saree drapes elegantly, with subtle stripes in monotone hues providing a sophisticated contrast, with copper zari gleaming through.
