FABRIC - Garbh Reshmi Handloom
BORDER - Roshani
BODY - 2x2 dented
NAUVARI, 9 YARDS WITH PALLA ON BOTH ENDS
The Roshani border, namesake of the designer who translated the 3 petal flower into a linear tesselation placed parallel to each other, to break the geometrics and bring in the organic keri kangra, (mango shaped ) with its organic nature. This border is an example of amalgamation of different influences brought in my multiple artisans, designers over the years and how seamlessly the Maheshwari textiles blend them together, rooted in its own history of acceptance. Also a tribute to the ever evolving legacy of Rehwa for holding space for innovation and adaptation like its own.
The second Garb Reshami, again upholding the standards of softness granted by the pajni yarns is a classic 2x2 dent garbh reshmi woven in the archival nine yard nauvari, with palla woven in the beginning as well as the end of the saree. The colors of this traditional piece borrows directly from Rehwa archives An ode to the lineage and influence of marathi culture allowing for the dhoti like drape the Kaashtha saree to display both pallas. The distinct palla with 3 stripes of contrast color running across the warp bordered with half bleach white to frame them, and make them pop.
