Araish is the ancient technique of producing extremely smooth, glossy and crack-free surfaces on floors and walls. The materials used are entirely organic: hydraulic lime, marble dust, buttermilk, gond / resin, coconut oil, rubbed meticulously onto the surface using an agate stone.
In modern times we have moved away from this labour-intensive craft technique to chemical-based paints which are cheaper and faster but lack the long lasting environmentally friendly and naturally aging properties of Araish.
