The most renowned Zulu potter of the 20th century was Master Potter Nesta Nala. Throughout the 1980s, Nesta's home became a focal point for both international and domestic researchers. Today, her pottery is highly sought after and regarded as masterpieces in private and museum collections. Nesta's expertise and skills were passed down to her daughters, Jabu and Thembi Nala, from a young age. Tragically, Nesta’s other two daughters, Nonshlanhla and Zanele, who were also exceptionally talented pot makers, passed away less than a year apart from each other. The Nala Sisters pots are handmade ceramic vessels crafted using traditional Zulu techniques like hand-coiling and open-pit firing.
